BERWICK, N.S. – The Valley High School Hockey League held its annual boys and girls all-star games in Berwick on Sunday, Jan. 21.
The boys and girls leagues were each divided up into two teams.
On the boys’ side competing was Team North made up of players from Digby, Middleton, Central Kings, West Kings, Horton and NKEC. Team South was made up of players from the Clare, Yarmouth, Par-en-Bas, Barrington, Park View and Avon View teams.
In a fast-paced, end-to-end three periods of hockey, it was Team South taking the all-star game victory 2-0. After a scoreless first period, scoring in the second period was Josh Boudreau from Par-En-Bas, assisted by Drake Johnson of Yarmouth. In the third period Barrington’s Jacob Symonds, assisted by Colton Lohnes and Marc Sabean, both of Park View, put Team South up 2-0.
Team North pulled its goalie at the end of the third period but couldn’t break through to get a goal.
Each boys’ high school team in the league sent two forwards and one defenseman to the all-star game.
The goaltenders, who each played a period, were chosen by team coaches. For Team North in net were Zach Mason of NKEC, Alex VanRoessel of Central Kings and Taylor McMillan of Horton.
The goaltenders for Team South were Ryan Jillette from Avon View, Nathan Comeau of Clare and Jack Campbell of Park View.

Following the game awards were handed out. Each high school team selected an MVP. For the boys’ teams the MVPs were:

GIRLS GAME
In the girls’ all-star match-up, Team West had a 6-3 win over Team East.
Team West was made up of players from the Bridgetown, Middleton, Par-en-Bas, West Kings and Yarmouth high school teams. Team East saw players from the Avon View, Central Kings, Horton, NKEC and Park View teams.
Each high school team sent two forwards and one or two defence players. In net were goalies Emma Clayton (Bridgetown), Ryean Emmett (Middleton), Caleigh White (Yarmouth), Jenna Morley (Avon View), Riana Jodrey (Horton) and Kate Wagner (Park View).
