Carson Gallant, 16, was recently selected by the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League at the annual entry draft June 3 in Saint John, NB.
Gallant, a 16-year old defenceman from Sackville, was Gatineau's first selection in the draft, 28th overall in the second round.
Central Scouting had Gallant pegged to have his name called in round three, so the selection was a move up the rankings.
Valley Major Midget and Junior A Wildcats general manager Nick Greenough says he's pleased for Gallant to get the chance, and believes he can be a great Q league defender.
“We knew a lot of teams had been looking (at Carson). He's got good size, mobility and a big shot,” Greenough said.
Gallant is five-foot-eleven and weights 150 pounds. Prior to playing with the midget Wildcats, he played major Bantam with the Newbridge Senators.
In his first year with the midget Wildcats last season, Gallant scored seven goals and 19 points in 38 games. He also added five points, including a playoff goal, for the Junior B Valley Maple Leafs in a handful of games.
