KENTVILLE – It wasn’t the sound of pucks hitting corners, but rather skaters laughing, that filled the Centennial Arena Dec. 21 in Kentville.
Skaters enjoyed laps around the ice – some experienced, others trying it for the first time – at the Valley Wild Family Fun Holiday Skate, an annual fundraising event organized by the hockey association each Christmas season to give back to its community.
“We always choose a charity and donate to people in need. Unfortunately there are lots of people out there who need a little bit more – especially at this time of year – so it’s nice to do that,” said Valley Wild president Jeff Zettler.
This year’s event was organized by association member Megan Saunders, and the charity of choice to receive funds, clothing items and non-perishable foods collected is the Annapolis County Pantry Project.
Zettler said the event is also “a chance for the community to come out and enjoy the festivities of the year,” and “is also for the girls to get out and enjoy the skate.”
“The girls practice hard all year – people are working hard – this is a chance to have fun and go out and skate and hang out with friends,” he said.
