Hockey Night in Weymouth is back for the seventh season.
Faith and hockey don’t usually mix together but Hockey Night in Weymouth makes it work.
“It’s a good opportunity to connect with our community,” said Darrell Haines, Senior Minister at the Weymouth Church of Christ.
Anybody is welcome to take place in the free indoor ball hockey event. Every Monday night at St. Mary’s Bay Academy in Weymouth, teams will play from 6:30-8:00 pm.
Teams practise, play games and during a short intermission they call 'Coaches Corner', Haines talks about faith and how hockey is a positive influence on all.
All ages and skill levels play together. Haines says the adults who come to play, sometimes help out the younger players through the season.
“It’s just about having fun, it’s not that competitive.”
Teams do keep track of statistics and end the end of the season, teams enter the ‘Stanley Cup All Star Game’ for a playoffs tournament.
“But nobody is left out, everyone is included no matter the scores,” Haines said.
The winning team wins the Pepsi can cup.
“You don’t think they would be excited for a cup made out of Pepsi cans, but everyone wants it.”
Participants should bring their own sticks, but they do have a few extra. Goalie gear is provided.
There aren’t many rules, but it is a kid friendly game.
“It’s a great group of people, who just want to play some hockey and have fun.”
Hockey Night in Weymouth starts tonight, April 9.
