BERWICK, N.S. - The championship title was highly contested in the recent Peter Connell Memorial Girls Hockey Tournament, with one local squad making it through to the final.

Eight teams faced off at the Apple Dome arena in Berwick from Dec. 27-28: Avon View Avalanche, Central Kings Gators, Horton Griffins, Yarmouth Vikings, West Kings Wolverines, Cobequid Education Centre (CEC) Cougars, Northeast Kings Titans and the Middleton Monarchs.

West Kings downed the hosting Central Kings team 5-1 in semifinal play to advance to the championship game against CEC, a visiting squad that trumped Avon View in a semifinal shootout to make it to the final.

CEC would go on to win the hard-fought championship game, narrowly besting West Kings by a score of 2-1.
