YARMOUTH, N.S. – The Barrington Barons came from behind with two goals in the third period to edge out the Par-en-Bas Sharks 4-3 in the NASSAF Division 3 semi-finals and move onto the provincials championship game.
The Barons play Dalbrae in the March 25 championship game at 2 p.m. after that team defeated Cape Breton Highlands in the other semi-final game.
The Sharks and Barons have had a rivalry all season with the Barrington more dominate over PEB in league play but the Sharks stealing away the regional championship from the Barons and the title game of Barrington’s Lobster Pot Tournament this season.
In this semi-final game the Barons were first to score in the first period but the Sharks tied up the game less than a minute later. PEB then went up 2-1 before the period ended.
The Sharks added to their lead with a goal early on in the second period to widen the gap 3-1, but the Barons came back with a goal midway through the frame for a 3-2 score after two periods.
Barrington tied the game 3-3 on a powerplay goal at 45 seconds into the third period and before the first five minutes of the third period had passed had increased their lead to 4-3.
The Sharks got an opportunity for a four-minute powerplay later in the game when the Barons were sent to the box for a hit to the head but 46 seconds into that man-advantage Par-en-Bas received a hooking penalty.
Par-en-Bas had another opportunity come their way when Barrington was sent to the penalty box again, opening up a potential 5-on-3 PEB powerplay advantage for 1:11, however 37 seconds into the powerplay the Sharks were sent to the box for interference.
Par-en-Bas pulled its goalie for the last minute of the game but couldn’t score to tie and the Barons hung on for the 4-3 win.
Scoring for the Barons in this game were: Tommy Willis with a pair of goals (Jude Greenwood, Cameron Nickerson and Tanner Bateman); Keiran O’Conner (Brett Smith and Jude Greenwood) and Tanner O’Connell (Jacob Symonds and Justin Smith).
Scoring for Par-en-Bas were Ethan Doucette (Josh Boudreau, Rylan d’Entremont); Hayden Young (Miguel d’Eon) and Miguel d’Eon (Ryan Warner and Hayden Young). Par-en-Bas has three grade 12s graduating this year: Josh Boudreau, Aiden D’Arcy and Patrick d’Entremont.
Barrington has seven graduating students: Riley Duggan, Tanner O’Connell, Jarrett Ross, Jacob Symonds, Joseph Atkinson, Brett Smith and Tommy Willis.
OTHER SEMI-FINAL
The semi-final between Dalbrae and Cape Breton Highlands was happening at the same time on the Mariners Centre’s second ice surface.
Dalbrae was led the game 2-0 before Cape Breton Highlands scored. The game was 2-1 after two periods. In the third period Dalbrae went up 3-1 and then 4-1 in the last minute of the game after scoring on their opponent’s empty net.
Scoring for Dalbrae in the game were: Brad Chandler (Hunter Shaw, Alexander Hawley); Mark MacDonnell (Cullen MacEachern); Alexander Hawley (Rory Gillis) and Rory Gillis (Mitchell Murphy).
Scoring for Cape Breton Highlands was Mitchell Dilosa (Marcus Larade, Jakob Deveau).
