MORELL - Digby’s Eric Locke is headed into the Atlantic Collegiate Athletics Association golf championships as the clear favourite to win.

Eric Locke

Locke, in his third year playing for Holland College of Charlottetown, will tee off at the Links at Crowbush Cove, PEI, Saturday and Sunday with the Hurricanes against Dalhousie Agricultural College and St. Thomas University.

Locke won the ACAA title last year and both ACAA events this season by wide margins.

Last year at the ACAAs he finished with a 14-stroke margin.

This year he won the first tournament near Fredericton, hosted by St. Thomas University by seven strokes on Sept. 20, and then the second at Abercrombie hosted by Dalhousie Agriculture College on Sept. 28 by five strokes.

The Hurricanes men’s team has won the ACAA championships the past eight years and should extend the streak this weekend.

Joining Locke are fellow third-year players Brett Wilson - who won the individual ACAA title in 2013 -  Justin Shanks, Neal Ryan and Luke Allen.

The Hurricanes will also have individuals James Sanford (Moncton, NB), Josh Dominie (Saint Stephen, NB), Corey Beaver (Truro, NS), Koty Nesbitt (Digby, NS) and Joe MacIsaac (Antigonish, NS) entered in the event.

Locke tees off at 12:20 p.m.  Oct. 4 with Nathan Harvey of St. Thomas University and James Sanford, playing as an individual from Holland College.

Nesbitt tees off at 12:50 p.m. with Neal Ryan of Holland College and Douglas MacFarlane of St. Thomas University.

The top finishers in the ACAA championships receive an invite to the CCAA national golf championships in Quebec City, Oct. 14 - 17 at the Club de Golf Lorette hosted by Champlain St. Lawrence.

If you happen to be on PEI this weekend, the public can attend the ACAA Championships at Crowbush Cove free of charge.
