BERWICK, N.S. - A hockey player who spent five years with the Valley Wildcats organization has been called up to the NHL.

Drake Batherson is slated to make his NHL debut with the Ottawa Senators in an 8 p.m. matchup against the Detroit Red Wings Nov. 15.

Batherson, 20, played bantam, midget and junior A hockey with the Valley Wildcats.

“Growing up, I played for the Wildcats for five years and they gave me the opportunity to develop my game with some great players and some great coaches along the way,” said Batherson in a media release distributed by the Wildcats Nov. 15.
“Overall, when I look back, I just remember so many great experiences and a lot of fun over the years playing with my friends.”

Wildcats general manager Nick Greenough fondly remembers coaching Batherson.

“It’s a great day when a local kid, who came through all the Wildcats programs, gets to further his career and achieve every player’s dream of making the NHL,” said Greenough in the same media release.
“We’re as proud as we can be. It’s a great moment for Drake, our organization and the Annapolis Valley in general.”
