The football program at Avon View High School is entering its eighth season this fall, and the coaching staff has high hopes for the team.
With 20 players returning, and an unusually high number of new Grade 10 athletes with experience, the coaching staff predicts they will be able to have a competitive season.
In addition, there is a new alignment in the league that pits Avon View against the bottom third of the teams. As a relatively young and growing program, coaching staff sees this as essential for the club’s future.
For athletes looking to try out football, there will be no cuts on the football team. The Avalanche coaching staff will find a spot for everyone who wants to play. However, everyone still needs to try out for positions.
Training camp starts Monday, Aug. 18, from 4-6 p.m. at the Avon View High School upper field, and will continue four days a week for the first two weeks.
There is usually a practice jamboree held the last weekend before school starts.
The Avon View Avalanche is also looking for some volunteers to help with the football team. The current four coaches would like to have someone volunteer that has experience with lineman, or special teams. However, anyone that has interest in helping the sport grow at the school would be welcomed.
A volunteer, with first aid knowledge, who could act as trainer is also being sought.
To learn more about the team, how to join or volunteer, call Jim Bryan, Avon View’s athletic director and football head coach, at (902) 790-6741.
