Eagles soar to capture SMBA Stingray Basketball Classic

ST. MARY'S BAY -  Drumlin Heights Consolidated Eagles soared over the SMBA Stingrays 95-80 to capture the St. Mary's Bay Academy Senior Boys 2018 Stingray Classic championship trophy.

Teams from Digby, North Queens, Yarmouth, Drumlin, Barrington and Liverpool competed in the annual tournament hosted by SMBA Dec. 14 and 15.

The Eagles went 3-0 with a 90-63 win over the Digby Mariners, a 101-73 victory against Barrington and the title-game win.

The SMBA Stingrays claimed second place, finishing the tournament with an 80-39 win over North Queens, a 70-56 win against Liverpool and an 86-44 victory over Yarmouth Jr. Varsity before falling to the Eagles in the final.

The Liverpool Warriors clinched third place with a close 89-82 win over Barrington Barrons and the Digby Mariners defeated Yarmouth Jr Varsity 59-45 for a fifth-place finish.

Along with the opening-game loss to SMBA Friday afternoon, North Queens fell to Yarmouth Jr Varsity 74-63 and Liverpool 96-67 on Saturday for seventh place.
