DIGBY, N.S. - Digby Regional High School (DRHS) didn’t win a title in last weekend’s Junior Varsity Girls Volleyball Provincial Championships, but the school’s volleyball coordinator is happy with their performance.

DRHS hosted the provincial tournament Nov. 24 and 25. Sharyn Hiscock, volleyball coordinator at the school, said the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation (NSSAF) tournament featured eight of the best teams from across the province.

“The girls ending up fourth which was an amazing showing as they were the youngest team in the tournament,” said Hiscock.

Hiscock said DRHS finished third at the regional tournament leading up to the final event. She said DRHS is made up of seven Grade 10 players, one from Grade 9 and one Grade 8 athlete.

“They’re a great defensive team, especially for being so young,” noted Hiscock of DRHS’s strengths.

The JV girls team at DRHS is coached by John Gumbley and assistant coach Brittany MacIsaac.

Division 1 and 2 schools competed at the provincial event. Cobequid Education Centre won the tournament while Park View Education Centre finished second and Dr. JH Gillis High School third.

Meanwhile, the DRHS senior girls volleyball team placed second in provincial qualifiers last weekend and will be attending Division 2 provincials in Middleton this weekend.
