In their latest effort, the Rockies split a pair of games with Nova Scotia’s Canada Games team June 15 in St. Croix.
In the opener, the Rockies blanked the Nova Scotia Games team 3-0 as Justin Schofield struck out 16 batters while allowing four hits.
The Rockies managed to come up with their three runs on three hits.
Alex Anthony, from East Hants and a member of the Games' team, was removed from the opening game after getting hit by a ball in the second inning.
He returned to play in the second game, throwing a one hitter and leading the team to a 7-0 victory.
Curtis Broussard allowed five runs in three and a third innings for the Rockies before Matt Lyttle finished up pitching. Lyttle allowed two runs.
The Rockies, in their opening two games of the season, lost to the Halifax Pepperjacks 10-1 before rallying for a 9-1 win in the second game. This doubleheader was held June 1. The next doubleheader, June 8, against the Atlantic Heating Charros, didn't go their way, as they lost 10-0 and 9-2.
The provincial Canada Games team will play in the Shooter's Bar and Grill Fastpitch League this summer while also representing Nova Scotia at the 2017 Canada Summer Games July 29 to Aug. 5.
Upcoming games
The Brookfield Elks will be in St.Croix June 22 for two games, the first at 7 p.m. followed by a 9 p.m. bout.
Fans will be able to watch the Rockies' Schofield in action at the St. Croix ballpark every Thursday night until July 5. Schofield will be headed to Whitehorse with Team Canada to compete at the World Confederation Softball Championships.
Play will start July 7 with 20 teams from across the world.
Canada goes into the tournament ranked second only to New Zealand, who they defeated for the World Championship in Regina 10-5 in the last World Confederation Championship.
Australia is ranked third going into tournament play.
Some of the other countries competing in the Yukon over 10 action-packed days are Great Britain, Czech Republic, Botswana, Israel, Japan, Mexico, India, Turkey and South Africa to name just a few.
The Rockies are scheduled to play 29 league games this season, concluding on Aug. 31 in St. Croix.
The league consists of the Atlantic Heating Charros, from Lantz, the Brookfield Elks, Halifax Pepperjacks, Colchester Royals, White Rock Rockies and the Canada Games team.
