The Valley team witnessed a tremendous pitching effort from Justin Schofield in the opener of their doubleheader with the Halifax Pepperjacks. They defeated them 3-1.
In the opener, Schofield allowed a single run on two hits while striking out 17.
Tyler Whynot continued his heavy hitting, earning with his fourth home run of the season while Patty Benedict added a double.
Both teams did all of their scoring in the fourth inning.
Halifax left five men on base, two in a scoring position while the Rockies left two men on, one of them in scoring position.
The second game was called after four innings due to the 10-run rule as the Pepperjacks steamrolled over the Rockies 15-3.
Halifax scored seven runs in the first, added two more in the second and three more apiece in the third and fourth innings.
Whynot connected for a single and a double in a losing cause and also pitched the fourth inning in relief of Curtis Broussard, who had started for the Rockies.
Aaron Long hit a grand slam home run for Halifax in the first inning, which was one of two homers for Long that night. His team connected for four home runs in the contest. Long’s RBI total on the evening was six.
The Rockies will take their 5-2 season record to Stewiacke June 25 for a single game before playing two in Brookfield on July 2. They return to the St. Croix ball field on July 9 for a doubleheader with the Brookfield Elks at 7 p.m and 8:30 p.m.
