Clark's Harbour Peewee AA Foggies capture Canada Cup Baseball championship with tournament win

DARTMOUTH, N.S. –   The Clark's Harbour Wilson's Foggies captured the championship at the Canada Cup of Baseball Peewee AA Tournament by going 4-0 over the July 1-3 weekend.

  The opening game of the tournament saw the Foggies dump the Bridgewater Bulldogs 12-4.  Game MVP Ethan Shand belted out two triples to lead the attack at the plate, while Ben Nickerson added a triple and a double, and Drew Goreham contributed a triple and a single.  Luke Lushington picked up the win on the mound for the victors.

  In their second game of the tournament’s opening day, the Foggies again came away victorious by edging the tournament host team Dartmouth Arrows 14-11.  Ethan Shand led the offence once again with a triple and double, with Ben Nickerson and Nate Wickens each adding two singles.  Winning pitcher was Drew Goreham.  Lex Swaine earned the game MVP honors for his defensive play in the outfield.

In the last game of round robin play, the Foggies hammered the Tri-County Rangers 16-5, earning a first place bye to the championship contest.  Game MVP Ben Nickerson took the win on the mound, and had 2 singles at the plate. Drew Goreham added a double and a single, with Luke Lushington, Nate Wickens, and Abigail Atwood contributing two singles each.

  The championship final was a rematch between the Clark's Harbour and Dartmouth squads, with the Foggies defeating the host Arrows 13-7 to take the championship banner. 

In the final the Foggies stormed out to an early 7-2 lead, only to see a five-run top of the 5th by Dartmouth deadlock the game at 7-7.  The Foggies would answer quickly with three runs in each of the bottom of the 5th and 6th innings, reclaiming the lead and slamming the door on any Arrows attack the rest of the game. 

Game MVP Ethan Shand earned the win on the mound, with Nate Wickens picking up the save in relief.  Game MVP Destinee Penney had four RBIs courtesy of a triple and double, with Drew Goreham and Nate Wickens each adding two singles.

The tournament victory was the first of the season for the Foggies, and had improved their season record to 13 wins and 8 losses.
