Cape Breton wins Nova Scotia Midget AA championships

HANTSPORT – The Cape Breton Reds defeated the Pictou County Albions 12-11 at the Nova Scotia Midget AA championship game in Hantsport on Aug. 21.

Pictou had an early lead in the final game, with a score of 11-9 until Cape Breton’s final batter in the bottom of the 7th, when the Reds struck for 3 runs.  

Pictou had previously defeated Halifax and Cape Breton defeated Dartmouth in earlier semi-final play, to advance to championship.

The co-hosts of the tournament, the Windsor Knights and Hantsport Shamrocks, opened play for the championships on their home fields.

Things got underway on Aug. 19, with a rocky start for the Hantsport Shamrocks who were thumped 16-0 by the Pictou County Albions.  

In Windsor, the Knights enjoyed a victory over the Halifax Mets before semi-final play began.
