In the 43+ title game, the Canadian Tire Lakers will be playing the Scarborough Maroons at Veterans Field at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 3. In their semi-final game on Sunday played in Clare, the Lakers defeated the Kindersley Klippers 7-6.
In the Tier 1 35+ title game, the Coastal Financial Yarmouth Gateways will play at 1:30 p.m. at Gateway Park. Yarmouth won its semi-final game 6-2 over the Dartmouth Alpines at Veterans Field on Sunday afternoon. Yarmouth led the game 4-0. In the top of the fourth inning the Braves scored two runs after loading the bases. Yarmouth increased its lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth when Mike Lockhart hit a homerun over the left field fence – it was his second homerun of the day, the first coming during a quarterfinal win Sunday morning.
The Gateways will play the winner of the semi-final game between the Morell Chevies and Dufferin-Simcoe Braves game. The game was suspended Sunday evening due to fog with the Braves leading 4-1. The game will be completed Monday morning at 9 a.m. at Gateway Park.
A third local team came very close to also making it to one of the championship games, during a back-and-forth contest with the Petit-de-Gras Red Caps at Gateway Park on Sunday afternoon.
Tusket Carl’s Store was leading 9-6 going into the top of the 6th. Petit-de-Gras rallied to drive in two runs and then scored a third goal on an error when Tusket’s catcher overthrew third base as the base runner was attempting to steal third.
Tusket re-gained its lead to 10-9 in the bottom of the 6th inning after a base runner stole second and third bases, putting him within scoring distance.
In the top of the 7th inning – with one Petit-de-Gras runner on base – Tusket was one out away from advancing to the championship game when Petit-de-Gras’ Darren Martell hit a homerun in right field, giving Petit-de-Gras the 11-10 lead. Tusket failed to get any base runners on base in the bottom of the seventh.
The Petit-de-Gras Red Caps will play the Regina Drifters in the Tier 2 35+ title game at 12:30 p.m. at Veterans Field.
In the 50+ division, the Oakville Golden “As” will play the Spring Lake Masters at 10:30 a.m. at Gateway Park.
