Bantam Foggies win in Moncton; Clark's Harbour team to vie for N.S. title this weekend

The Clark's Harbour Foggies captured the championship banner with a 4-0-1 record in the 12-team bantam "AA" division of the recent Moncton Invitational baseball tournament.

They defeated the Tri-County Rangers of Bedford 15-5 in the final.

Clark's Harbour opened the tournament with a 13-2 win over the Port City Pirates. Ben Nickerson and affiliate player Jae Lynn Zinck combined for the win.

Vinny Surette, Ethan Shand, Jacob Matthews and Nate Wickens all doubled and a singled for the winners.

The Foggies edged the Halifax Mets 2-0 in game two, a complete-game victory for pitcher Austin Surette, who only surrendered three Halifax hits. Tanner Nickerson paced the Foggies’ offence with two singles.

In their last game of the round-robin the Foggies and the Riverview A's played to a 0-0 draw. Pitcher Jordan Belliveau only gave up two hits in a complete-game performance. Vinny Surette had a double for the Foggies.

Clark's Harbour downed Dartmouth Blue by a score of 4-1 in semifinal action to advance to the championship contest. Ethan Shand picked up the win. At the plate, he had a pair of singles.

It was all Clark's Harbour in the final game of the weekend, as the Foggies hammered the Tri-County Rangers 15-5 in five innings.

Ben Nickerson and Vinny Surette combined for the win in the title game. Ben Nickerson paced the bats by slamming two doubles and a single, with Ethan Shand adding three singles. Jacob Matthews and Nate Wickens added a pair.

This was the second tournament win of the season for the Foggies, who improved their record of 33-6-1. They will participate in the provincials Labour Day weekend in Hants North.
