14 Wing’s Greenwood Golf Club slated for closure

GREENWOOD - This will be the last season to hit the greens at the Greenwood Golf Club.

14 Wing Greenwood Commander Colonel Pat Thauberger opens the ceremony by sharing statistics from the Second World War.

On April 11, 14 Wing Greenwood base commander Col. Pat Thauberger announced the 18-hole course primarily used by military personnel is slated to close in October.

“The Greenwood Gold Club has always presented a top-notch, tournament-level course to members and guests, and its staff are second to none. The 2017 season will continue to offer fantastic golf experiences, and we encourage everyone to come enjoy a great game,” said Thauberger in a press release.

“Recreational programs and facilities for the personnel and families at 14 Wing Greenwood will continue to adapt to meet changing demographics and interests. The Greenwood defence team has the opportunity through the recreation survey to direct how we continue to enhance life here at the base.”

The Greenwood Golf Club was established in 1959. The course is partially nestled in a scenic location with holes along the winding Annapolis River.

“An extensive options analysis on the Greenwood Golf Club was conducted through the winter of 2017, finding few opportunities for changing a declining membership trend and improving revenue,” a press release from 14 Wing Greenwood states.

The course will open this month for its final season.
