HOPKINS, William Franklyn A Celebration of Life for William Hopkins will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Hotel North (Lower Deck Room) in North Sydney. Born October 5, 1932 in Sydney Mines, passed away suddenly on November 21, 2018 at the age of 86. Bill served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 28 years (1949-1977). For the next 10 years he worked for Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) in The Hague and London, followed by 3 years at the London Stock Exchange as Director of Information Technology. On returning to Canada, Bill did consulting work with the Federal Government until he finally retired in 2000. William was predeceased by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Catherine Jane (nee Hunter); his parents, Edna (nee Stewart) and Franklyn Wm. Hopkins; his older brother, Jackie, and sister, Lorraine Taylor. He is survived by his younger brothers, Kevin (Mary Turner) and Neil (Marilyn), and nieces and nephews, Gail (Graham) Bardswich, Terry (Marilyn) Hopkins, Kelly (Barry) Brown, Shannon Hopkins, Sherry (Lou) Kuipers, and Aileen (Nick) Mayhew. He is greatly missed by his only son, Stewart William; daughter-in-law, Nancy Whynot, and his two grandsons, Christopher and Jonathan. William requested there be no formal service. William will be remembered for his kind and generous nature by all that knew him.
