It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of William Alton Jardine, age 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at the Northside Community Guest Home. Born in Sydney Mines on August 1, 1933, Alton was the only son of the late William and Dorothy (Mosley) Jardine. Alton worked as a Funeral Director with Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home in North Sydney and Sydney Mines for over 40 years. He was a longtime member of The Seventh Day Adventist Church in North Sydney and a former member of the North Sydney Fire Department. Alton is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sue (Price) Jardine, Sydney Mines, his four children, Beverly (Jack) Reid, Treva, Billy and Doug (Tracey) Jardine, his five grandsons, Christopher Reid, Joshua, Jordan, Keegan and Logan Jardine, three special granddaughters, Autumn, Aubrey and Leah, also his special friends Grace, Victoria and his canine friend Maggie. Visitation for Alton will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Franz Unger officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in St. James Cemetery, Big Bras d’Or. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Church Improvement or a charity of choice.
