Thomas Arthur Rice

Thomas Arthur Rice
RICE, Thomas Arthur It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tom Rice, age 102 on August 5, 2019. Born May 26, 1917 on Forrest Street, Sydney Mines, where he spent his entire life surrounded by wonderful neighbours. He was the son of the late Weston and Matilda Rice. Tom is survived by daughter, Donna and son-in-law, Fern Michel and furry friend, Emmeline. He is predeceased by his wife, Louise, his sweetheart and true love for 65 years; daughters, Joan, Dorothy; son, Arthur; brothers, Walter, Albert, Roy and Louis; sisters, Ellen and Dorothy. Dad worked most of his life as a carpenter and cabinet maker. A talent he was so proud of. Dad loved music and dancing. He was a member of the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club where he rarely missed a Saturday dance with his friends. Mom and Dad loved the outdoors, the waters and the countryside of Cape Breton where they spent many years hunting and fishing. Special thanks to Northside Homemakers, especially Angie Barry, for their devotion, care and love to Dad. Also thank you to Dr. Kohlsmith, the nurses and staff on Northsides 2W. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines with Rev. Stacey LeMoine officiating. Reception following in the church hall. Interment in Trinity Cemetery on Tobin Road, Sydney Mines. Memories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.fillmoreandwhitman.com. In memory of Dad, donations can be made to Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines where Dad loved to worship and faithfully attended, and where pieces of his woodwork can be found. “Greatly missed, but never forgotten. He will be in our hearts forever.”
