Theresa Gilliard

It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Theresa Gilliard, age 89, in Edmonton, Alberta on December 10, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Predeceased by her loving husband, Maxwell Gilliard, (RCAF) of Grand Bank, NL and her daughter, Corinne. Leaving to celebrate her life are sons, Robert Gilliard (Corinne), Darrell Gilliard (Ella), and daughter, Lisa Martin (Charbel). Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Richard and Christopher Gilliard, Ryan Gilliard (Lian), Natalie Gilliard (Tom), Adam and Christa Downton; great-grandchildren, Brianna and Ava. Theresa, daughter of the late Theodore Snow and Mary MacDonald of Sydney, NS, was the eldest of eight siblings, Teddy (Rhoda), Marie (Brother), Joey (Tessie), Carolyn (Dennis), Joan, Jennie, Doreen (Lorway) and Brian (Cindy). Born December 1, 1929 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Theresa graduated high school in 1948 and obtained her teaching degree with honors, in Truro, NS, in 1951. A dedicated teacher and spouse of a military man, she lived in Halifax, Ottawa, Kingston, St. John’s, NL, and Summerside, PEI. She was devoted to her local Catholic church and her church family. Theresa was a dedicated volunteer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. She enjoyed beach time in Cape Breton and PEI, reading, writing, Irish music, and getting together with friends. Theresa was respected and admired by both students and peers for her enthusiasm and forever remembered for her kind and loving nature. A private service will be held in Edmonton and final interment will take place in Sydney River, Nova Scotia at a future date.
