It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Sylvia Wrice, on January 3, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her loving family by her side. Born in Glace Bay she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Christina (MacPhee) Blois. Sylvia was employed with the Cape Breton Regional School Board for many years until retirement. She was a quiet lady who enjoyed knitting, TV Bingo with Rita, shopping, and dancing in her red high heels. Sylvia enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and made sure nobody went hungry by always having her famous “rubber toast” available. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. Sylvia is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Andrew Joseph “Ducie” Wrice; daughters, Linda (Gerry) Croney, Glace Bay, Rita (Todd) Sheriff, Lantz; four wonderful grandchildren, Michelle, Adam, Brandon and Ryan; her precious great-grandchildren, Kash and Kaylum. She is also survived by sisters, Eleanor Brownell, Rita (Keith) Mulvey; brothers, Jackie (Sally) Blois and Lawrence (Colleen) Blois; a special friend she kept close to her heart, Muriel “Moo” MacAulay; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Nancy Lee; son, Alfred Joseph “Joey”; several sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday, January 11, 2019 from 7-9 p.m. at T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019 with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding at the funeral home chapel with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Palliative Care, CBRH. Sylvia’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Emergency Department, 3A and the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for all their care and compassion given to Sylvia during her stay. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Harbourstone Enhance Care Facility for their support over the years.
