Stewart Leadbeater

Stewart Leadbeater
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father Stewart Calvin Leadbeater, 89, of Westville. Stewart was born in Westville on August 17, 1928 to Ben and Ella (Lorimer) Leadbeater. He started working at an early age on the farms of Charles Fraser and Lloyd MacLean in Durham cutting pulp and doing farm chores. He went to work in the Drummond and MacBean Coal Mines until he could no longer go underground due to injuries received there. Stewart then operated Leadbeater’s Taxi until retirement. After his retirement, he was always busy around the yard where he kept and immaculate lawn and flower beds and always had a vegetable garden. He loved to go ice fishing on Big Island with his fishing buddies. Stewart made many hooked rugs and beautiful Tokyo Bunka Embroidery pictures of which he gave to many of his family and friends. He enjoyed long drives with Mom and one summer they drove across Canada to Vancouver Island. The most important thing in Stewart’s life was his family whom he loved dearly. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Aldona (Benoit) Leadbeater; and children Karen MacLean, Inverness; Shane (Shelly King), Truro; and Ella (Forbes) LeDrew, Westville; as well as grandchildren, Aaron Leadbeater (Alana Andrews), Stewiacke; Tara Leadbeater (Mike Parker), Greenfield; and Adam LeDrew (Brittany Robb), Halifax; many nieces and nephews, including devoted niece Jane Herron and her husband Graham. He was predeceased by a daughter-in-law Linda Leadbeater; son-in-law Russell MacLean; siblings, Lizzie Oxenham; Eileen MacLean; Eleanor Hilton; Lula Lochead; Jessie Leadbeater; Ben, Harold and Burton Leadbeater. Stewart is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Tuesday from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. His funeral service will be held 2 o’clock Wednesday from Eagles Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. Mary Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Auburn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice. www.eaglesfuneralhome.ca
