Sister Faustina Grant

Sister Faustina Grant
Mass of Christian burial for the late Sister Faustina Grant (Sister Saint Faustina) CND, was held November 2 in St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish (St. Joseph Church), Sydney, with Father Bill Burke officiating. Sister Grant died October 28, 2018, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Heatherton, she was a daughter of the late Duncan W. Grant and Margaret (Jane MacDonald) Grant. Sister entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1945, and made her religious profession on August 20, 1947, in Montreal. Her many years of service in the Congregation of Notre Dame were spent as a teacher, specializing in Home Economics. She taught in Montreal, Sydney, Mabou, Port Hood, Judique and Antigonish at both the Antigonish High and the Regional High schools. In Judique and Port Hood, she was instrumental in initiating the 4-H Programs for junior high students and held evening classes for adults. In Antigonish, she served on the parish council and did home visitations both in the town and county. For 21 years, she was the Sacristan at the Highland Crest Home in Antigonish. She was always filled with joy and laughter and brought these gifts to the home along with homemade preserves to the guests. Her neighbors, as well, on Greening Drive were also the recipients of these gifts and her joyful presence. She was well equipped academically for her professional life as a teacher. A graduate of St. F.X. with a B.Sc. in Home Economics and a Master’s Degree from the University of Connecticut, she continued further post-graduate studies in the area of family life education. She spent her last few years in retirement at Parkland Cape Breton where she appreciated the kindness of the staff, the companionship of the guests, and the peace which permeated the residence. She, herself, brought to Parkland the same gifts of laughter, thoughtfulness and generosity which characterized her entire life. She is survived by her brother, Duncan J. Grant, Toronto; several nieces and nephews in Halifax, Portland, Maine, Ottawa, Toronto, British Columbia and Texas. She was predeceased by six sisters, Flora, Mary, Isabelle, Claire, Anna, Winnie; four brothers, Benny, Barry, Rory, Daniel. Online condolences: www.twcurry.com
