Sister Ada Fougere

Sister Ada Fougere, 97, formerly Sister Daniel Theresa, a Sister of St. Martha of Antigonish, died at Martha Place/Mary’s Court, Parkland Antigonish, on Thursday, May 31, 2018. She was in her 77th year of religious life. Born in Frankville, Nova Scotia, Sister Ada was the daughter of the late Daniel and Charlotte (Levangie) Fougere. Sister Ada entered the Sisters of St. Martha on August 15, 1939, pronounced her first vows on August 15, 1941, and made her perpetual commitment on August 15, 1945. In Sister Ada’s seventy-two years of ministry, she was mainly engaged in household management duties. For ten years she cared for children at the Little Flower Institute, Bras d’Or, NS. Other missions in Nova Scotia were: St. Martha’s Convent, Antigonish; Holy Heart Seminary, Halifax; St. Francis Xavier University, Marian Community, and Bethany, Antigonish. Sister spent six years in Ontario at the Cardinal’s Residence, and St. Augustine’s Seminary, Toronto, and one year on renewal in Arnprior. For the last number of years while residing at Bethany, and most recently at Mary’s Court, Parkland Antigonish, Sister Ada lived her life of mission in prayer and Gospel Hospitality. Her Acadian culture and language were dear to her heart. Music was always part of her life wherever she lived. Sister Ada enjoying playing the violin at many Congregation gatherings. She had a good sense of humour and often those in her presence would find themselves laughing. Sister Ada was the fourth youngest in a family of twelve. She was the last surviving member of her family. Sister Ada was predeceased by her sisters, Doris, Kathleen, Rita and Stella, and by her brothers, Ambrose, Gilbert, Norbert, Seward, Sylvester, Arnold and Stanley. Sister Ada delighted in her many devoted nieces and nephews. The remains will be resting at Martha Place, Parkland Antigonish, beginning on Sunday June 3, 2018 at 1:15 p.m. A Celebration of Vigil will be held on the same evening at 7 p.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place on Monday June 4, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. St. Martha Chapel, Parkland Antigonish.
