Born in Sydney Mines on March 12, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (MacDonald) Wassilaskus. Shirley loved the outdoors and taking drives. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Joseph; her sister, Theresa (late Maurice Phillippo); her sister, Marguerite Lorraine in infancy, and the father of her daughter, Ernest Garnier. A very special thank you to her other family at Taigh Solas for the care given to her over the years. Cremation has taken place. Her family will receive visitors on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 10-11 a.m. in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main St., Sydney Mines. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. with Fr.
