It is with great sadness that we, the family of Ruth MacLeod of Tower Road, announce her passing at Glace Bay Hospital on June 14, 2018, following a brief illness. Born in Glace Bay May 2 ,1936, to the late John Archibald and Ruth (Freeman) MacDonald. She is survived by daughters, Debbie (Elmer) Boutilier and Heather (Eddie) MacDonald; sons, Kirk (Victor), Emerson and David (Mary); grandchildren, Aaron (Nicole), Adam (Courtney), Jeff, Jaclyn (Daniel), Chad (Michelle), Kendra, Kelsey and Hilary (Tyler); great-grandchildren, Grace, Lyla, Lochlin and Nicole's children, Chantel and Mark. She was predeceased by loving husband, Arthur Keith; sons, Keith and Todd; brothers, Philip (Agnes), Freeman, Graham (Irene), William (Katie), Louis and Emerson (Ann), and sister, Margaret (Steve, Ron). Ruth graduated from NS Teachers College (1954) and taught at Robert Orr Memorial School and Tompkins Memorial School. She was a teacher not only to the children in her classroom, but shared her knowledge and wisdom with anyone lucky enough to know her. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren each had a cherished spot in her heart. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and valued every precious moment. She was passionate about genealogy, gardening, and staying informed about current world events. She enjoyed the simple things in life such as a warm cup of tea, conversation, and watching Coronation Street. After "running the roads," her furry companions Daisy and Sadie were thrilled for her return. She will forever be remembered as "Nana Glasses". Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, Monday, June 18 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A service will take place at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 257 Reserve St., Glace Bay, Tuesday, June 19 at 2 p.m. Following the service, family and friends are welcome to gather at the Tower Road Fire Hall.
