Roy Anthony Whelan

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Roy Whelan on Sunday, November 4, 2018. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 43 years, Darlene; sisters, Geraldine (John), Mass., Carolyn, Joanne and Josie (Donald), and brother, Paul (Glynis). Also surviving are many nieces and nephews of whom he thought the world of. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and MaryJo Whelan of Ashby; brothers, Billy and Brian; two brothers in infancy, and sister-in-law, Susan Whelan. He was also predeceased by his in-laws, Cecil and Marg Fletcher of Sydney. He was truly like a son to them. Roy was a very kind person, who loved to bring joy and laughter to anyone he met. He had a four year battle with cancer, which he fought bravely to the end. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Saliba, all the nurses of the Cape Breton Cancer Clinic (his angels), the nursing staff on 4C, palliative care and Tom MacNeil. There will be no visitation as per Roy’s request. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Cancer Clinic.
