Roderick 'Roddie' Bennett — Sydney

Roderick 'Roddie' Bennett
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that Roddie has passed from this life on Dec. 11, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, at the age of 62. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Roddie loved Aggie, his family, and friends, and of course, the Toronto Maple Leafs. He wore the maple leaf jersey with great pride. Born in Frenchvale, he grew up in a large family, and it was of no surprise that when they gathered, a card game, baseball game, horseshoe tournament, or hockey game would break out. He was a quiet man, but he had a terrific sense of humour, and his deep booming voice was very easy to pick out in a crowd. Roddie loved going to Ingonish with Aggie, where over the years he made many special friends, and many memories that they will treasure forever. He worked for over 40 years with the Dept. of Highways where he made many friends along the way. He will be remembered by his special partner and soul mate of many years, Agnes “Aggie” Hogan; his mom, Mary Jeanette, who’s faith never wavers; sisters, Jessie and Angela (Paul Wilton); brothers, Donnie, Terry, Barry, Bruce (Rebecca), Paul, and Darcy (Toby); sisters-in-law, Shirley Bennett, and Angie Bennett. Roddie will also be missed by Aggie’s sons, Steven (Leslie), Blair (Angie), John (Shauna), and also many nieces and nephews. Roddie is predeceased by his father, William; his brothers, John Cecil, Blaine, Andre, and Barry Francis in infancy. Visitation for Roddie will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, from 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m., at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Funeral Mass to follow at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Parish, Frenchvale, with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roddie’s memory can be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.chantfuneralhome.ca. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of… May God Bless him and keep him safe. God Bless everyone who has helped us in every little way. A touch of kindness is forever.
