Roderick Cyril Macneil
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and brother, Roderick Cyril MacNeil on June 7, 2019. Born in Barra Glen on May 27, 1924, Rod was the son of John Dan and Annie Catherine MacNeil. He is survived by children, Marian (Gerald), Lorne (Kim), Myrna (Randy), Timothy (Janet), Rosemary (Alfred) and Paul (Tracey); 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and 37 nieces and nephews; as well as two brothers, Jamie (Louise) and Joe (Alice) and one sister, Marie (Ron). He is also survived by 10 godchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Helen Dorothy; brother, Mendal (Colleen); sisters, Annie (Cyril), Monica, Theresa and Louise (John Anthony); as well as niece, Debbie; nephew, David, and his twin siblings, Mary and John. Rod served his church and community with love and dedication during times of peace and his country in time of war. Visitation will be held in Iona Parish Hall on Monday, June 10 from 2 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, June 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Columba Church with Fr. Varghese Puthuparameil officiating. A reception will follow in the Iona Parish Hall. By Rod’s request, family flowers only. In his memory donations may be made to the Iona Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of one’s choice. Grateful thanks to Victoria County Home Support Services for 7 years of loving care and the staff of An Cala Palliative Care Unit for their gentle compassion that carried Rod through his final days on earth.
