Our family regrets to announce the passing of Rita Elizabeth MacKinnon on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Northside Community Guest home where she resided for the last three years. Born in North Sydney on January 18, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Helen (Green) Hatcher of North Sydney. Rita had a great love of horses, she showed them at the Northside Exhibition until her late twenties. Before her marriage, the family farm was her second home. She dearly loved her family. She enjoyed swimming, especially at Dunvegan with the trailer crew. She is survived by her husband, Raymond, and two sons, John D. and Daniel (Bronwyn). She is also survived by siblings, Ted (Elaine) Hatcher, Philip (Shelly) Hatcher, Diane Hatcher (Kimberly Kilback deceased), Stan (Heather) Hatcher and Calvin (Donna) Hatcher, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Rita is also survived by sisters-in-law, Margie (Doug deceased) MacMullin, Colleen (Mike deceased) Hawrylak, Barbara (Keith) Hardy, Darlene (Steve) Gasper, Cheryl (Bob) Coffin, Gail (Lloyd deceased) MacKinnon, Bonnie Lee (Bob) Crowe and Paula (Don) Delaney. Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her brother, David. Visitation will take place on Sunday, March 11, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church with Fr. Dennis Lamey officiating.
