Reta Betty Ball
BALL, Reta Betty With much sadness, the family regrets to announce the passing of a very loved mom, wife, grandmother and dear friend, Reta Ball on Saturday, October 12, 2019, in the An Cala, Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Mom loved being surrounded by her family and friends every day and especially loved celebrating her famous Christmas Eve party. She enjoyed life to the fullest and was so strong and determined until the end. Mom enjoyed family dinners and baking special treats for everyone. She loved being outside in her yard gardening, listening to the birds sing and sitting outside on her step waiting for the next visitor to arrive. Mom cherished all her special visits and as a tribute to all the wonderful memories and people, she named her driveway “Memory Lane”. Reta’s greatest joys were her family, especially her youngest grandchildren, Princess Maggie and Love Bug Nikolas. Left to remember are Eddie (Edie) and Kevin and his daughter, Maggie; Kathie (Mike) and their son, Nikolas; and special nephew, Brian Watson. Also survived by her grandchildren, Chad and Tara and their families, as well as her loving brothers, sisters and their families. Reta was predeceased by her husband, George; son, Laurie; parents, Ophelia and Elmer Nickerson, as well as sister, Joyce Watson and brothers, Clifton and William Nickerson. A very special thank you to all the amazing and loving nurses, doctors, staff and volunteers in An Cala, Palliative Care Unit and the Cancer Care Center who gave so much care, love and hugs to our mom. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, October 17 from 12:30-2 p.m., followed by a service in the chapel at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment in St. John’s Cemetery, Pt. Edward. Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County. “Always in our Hearts” Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail [email protected]
