Muriel Macdougall — New Glasgow

Muriel Macdougall
New Glasgow – We are saddened to announce the loss of our Mom, Muriel Ellen MacDougall, on February 18, 2018. Mom died peacefully in Aberdeen Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 94. Mom was born in Baddeck, NS, the only child of Hugh and Mary MacDonald. She lived in various parts of the Province including Arisaig, where she met her future husband, Frank. After graduating as an RN from the Halifax Infirmary in 1945, Mom pursued her nursing career until her marriage in 1951. Mom and Dad moved about the Atlantic Provinces until settling in New Glasgow in 1957. While raising seven children Mom was an active member and held executive positions in several organizations including IODE, Aberdeen Hospital Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels to name a few. She was also a founding member of the Pictou County Highland Dancing Association. Mom had deep faith and was a member of the CWL of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish for 60 years. Mom’s greatest joy was having her family around her during gatherings throughout the year. Mom treasured her many friends, particularly her sister-in-law, Joan MacDougall, with whom she shared so much. Together they enjoyed dining out, playing cards and many road trips with the girls. Muriel will be greatly missed by her children Carole (Murray) Dunbar, Eileen MacDougall, Angus (Ann) MacDougall, Sandra (Mike) Dolansky, Hugh (Susan) MacDougall, Bruce (Michelle) MacDougall, Lynn (John) Coffin. She was loving grandmother to Colin, Catherine, Garren, Elizabeth, Neil, Erin, Sarah, Matthew, Brett, Angus, Sean, Staci, Kirsten, Meryl, Connor, John David and Ellen as well as ten great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husband and parents as well as a daughter-in-law, Judy. She carried herself with the grace of a true lady and her spirit and good humour were infectious. She always spoke kindly of others. We are all so proud of our Mom. Mom, you always said you had a great family, but it is your family that was blessed with a great Mom. Rest in peace now. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of H.W. Angus Funeral Home with visitation Wednesday, February, 21 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. A celebration of Mom’s life will be held with funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 1:30 pm with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Donations in Mom’s memory can be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Capital Fund. We wish to thank the medical staff who cared for Mom during her finals days, especially Doctors Aulayne Jeans and Pat Craig. www.angusfuneralhomes.com
