Mitchell Richard
Mitchell Richard February 07, 1995 - November 25, 2017 Richard, Mitchell Alyre Charles - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mitchell on Saturday, November 25, 2017. He leaves behind parents John and Charlotte, his younger brother Spencer, his girlfriend Allison Grimes, paternal grandparents John and Isabel Richard of Amherst, maternal grandmother Gloria Black of Little River, paternal aunts and uncles Michelle (Etienne), Darren (Brad), Andrew (Tammy) and honourary Auntie Rhoda, maternal aunts and uncles Kendall (Shannon) and Philip (Anne) as well as two big wonderful extended families and many friends. His Grandfather, John Black and cousin, Jeremy Black, predeceased Mitchell. Mitchell enjoyed both academic and athletic pursuits while in high school. He was always eager to compete but treasured the camaraderie of team far more than the wins. Following high school, Mitchell ventured to Mount Allison University, where he began study in Sciences. After completing two years, he chose to take a break to refocus on his future direction. During that study break, he was employed at Oxford Home Hardware and Amherst Chrysler. Both of his work families showed such kindness to a young man finding his way. Mitchell never lost the wonder or joy of exploring nature. He was an outdoorsman from the start! His favourite place was the woods. Even if far too brief, he was so grateful to be able to return to outdoor life following many months in hospitals. He exhibited grace and humor as he tackled obstacles on his path, particularly during this last year. Always determined and looking forward, we are confident he found his true North. In Mitchell’s words: “It was a short life, but one filled with love.” We are all grateful to the large medical community who worked to support Mitchell throughout the course of his illness: the Neuro Team at the Halifax Infirmary, Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre, the wonderful doctors and nurses of Princess Margaret in Toronto, the Palliative Care team of Cumberland and VON; in particular; Dr. Sean Christie, Dr. Peter Blaikie and Dr. Keith Short. Visitation will be from 5-8pm Tuesday, November 28 in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford (902-447-2930). A service of celebration for Mitchell’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 29 in the Church of the Nazarene, Oxford. Donations in Mitchell’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Palliative Care Cumberland or Life Rolls On. Private condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.mmcfunerals.com
