Matthias ‘Matty’ Jacobs

Matthias ‘Matty’ Jacobs
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Matty Jacobs, announce his passing at the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on April 15, 2018. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Theresa, and family at the time of his passing. He was the son of the late Matthew and Lavinia Jacobs. Matty loved to sing country songs and Elvis Presley, and often could be found singing around the house and in the company of others. He was a loud and proud Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Yankees fan, and could often be found in front on the TV cheering on his favorite teams. He loved to hunt, was an avid bowler and an accomplished fastball pitcher. He was often found at the baseball field in Whitney Pier, starring for the Pier Aces, Sydney Schooners, MacLean’s Brother Mets and the Alexandra St. White Sox. He was a very prayerful person, always thinking of others. He loved his family and especially his three grandsons, and went out of his way to spoil them with gifts and his love and affection. He was a real jokester to those who knew him best. He was employed for the majority of his career at the Isle Royal Motel in Sydney and also worked for a brief period as a crossing guard. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Theresa; son, Bradley (Catherine); grandchildren, Thomas, Luke and Logan Jacobs; brothers, Harry (Carol) and Ted (Sharon), and sisters, Winnie Larade, Marie Muise and Hilda Hillier (Melvin). He is survived by many nieces and nephews, including his special nephew, Philip Martin (Magen), who had a special place in his heart. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Joan Martin and Rita MacDonald, and brother-in-law, Jimmy MacDonald. He is also survived by many special friends, including Victor Mazlin. Besides his parents, Matty was predeceased by brothers, James, Gordon, Frank, George, Edgar and Joe, and sisters, Lorraine, Myrtle and Jacqueline. Visitation will be held at S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney on Tuesday, April 17 from 6 – 9 p.m., with the celebration of life held on Wednesday, April 18 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Sheldon Chant to officiate. Reception to follow. Internment at Resurrection Cemetery following the service.
