Mary Theresa Prosser

Mary Theresa Prosser
PROSSER, Mary Theresa It comes with great heartache and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beautiful mother and "Nanny", Theresa Prosser, on Thursday, August 15, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, in Sydney, NS, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 31, 1929, Theresa was the oldest daughter of the late John and Maude (Smith) Downey of Codroy Valley, Newfoundland. She came to Sydney as a young lady to work and later married Randolph “Porky” Prosser in 1950, and together they raised three daughters. She was an active member of many clubs, including St. Alban's Church, Club 55, Pier and Pensioners, and volunteered along with her close friend, Joyce Wells for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB). Theresa was an avid bowler and also enjoyed participating in dart leagues. She was very outgoing and was often spotted downtown (always with a smile on her face), walking and riding the bus here and there. She loved to watch the Cape Breton Eagles, the Blue Jays and curling, and was very pleased to have attended the "Scotties" hosted in Sydney this past winter. Left to mourn are her daughters, Maureen Lynch and Linda Prosser of Sydney, and Darlene (John) Ryan of Lawrencetown, NS; four grandchildren, Angela Risk (Anthony Costello), Sydney, Randy Risk, Victoria, BC, Shannon Lynch (Erhan Tatlidil), Victoria, BC, and Bob Lynch, Sydney; two great-grandchildren, Kenzie (son of Angela and Anthony), Sydney, and Aidan (son of Randy), Victoria; siblings, sister, Margaret O'Gorman, Stephenville, NL; brothers, Mike (Ruth) O'Regan's, NL, and Hyacinth, Dryden, ON. She is also survived by brother-in-law, George Prosser (late Sally), Sydney and sisters-in-law, Adeline Luckie (late Don), New Glasgow, Golda Prosser, Spryfield and Marie Downey, Winnie Downey, Blanche Downey, all from Newfoundland, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her friends, especially her cards and puzzle friends from Xavier Apartments where she called home for the past three years. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Randolph “Porky” in 2003 and son-in-law, Greg Lynch, 2004; her brothers, Frank, Leo, Raymond, George, Edward, Gus, Tom and sister, Rose Brake; in-laws, George and Emma (Organ) Prosser; brothers-in-law, Bernard O’Gorman, Carl Brake, Ralph Organ, Walter Prosser, Don Prosser and Ken Prosser; and sisters-in-law, Loretta Lewis and Ruth Evely. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday, August 18th, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held at St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Victoria Road, Whitney Pier on Monday, August 19th at 11 am with Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held at St. Alban’s Church Hall, with interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation and/or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or emailed to [email protected].
