Mary Gertrude ‘Mary Tommy’ Chisholm
Funeral service for the late Mary Gertrude ‘Mary Tommy’ Chisholm, 100, was held April 13 in St. Andrews Church, St. Andrews with Father Charles Cameron officiating, assisted by Father Dan MacDonald.
Mrs. Chisholm died April 9, 2019, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Readers at the funeral Mass were daughter-in-law Erdine Chisholm, son Kevin Chisholm, granddaughters Michelle Murray, Angela Chisholm, Patty Chisholm and Lorraine MacKenzie. Altar servers were Henry and Minnie van de Wiel. Great-grandchildren Dylan Chisholm, Owen Chisholm, Will Chisholm, Ally Chisholm, Marley Murray, Sam Murray, Andy Murray, Alexandra Boyd, Ava Boyd and Alex Chisholm-Tessier presented the offertory gifts. Eucharistic ministers were son-in-law Archie Boyd and daughter-in-law Cathy Chisholm. Music was provided by Emery van de Wiel and granddaughter Maggie Chisholm, soloist. Members of St. Andrews CWL formed an honour guard.
Pallbearers were grandchildren Gordon Boyd, Hughie Boyd, Kati MacIsaac, Michelle Boyd, Michael Boyd and Graham Boyd.
Born November 16, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Angus H. and Ann Elizabeth (Bessie) MacIsaac MacPherson, St. Andrews. She was a woman of great faith, a proud member of the St. Andrews CWL and just recently received her 80 year pin. Her life focused around being and doing good. She took great pride in her family homes including the Big Brook in Dunmore, Meadow Green, and the village of St. Andrews. She loved entertaining, always having tea on the stove and home cooked food on ready supply, especially her oatcakes, molasses bread and butterscotch pie. The rosary, the crib board, the Flyers, the Leafs, the flower gardens and The Captain were held in the highest esteem.
She is survived by eight children, Maureen (Archie) Boyd, Hugh James, Kevin (Leslie), Kathleen MacIsaac, Duncan (Gwen), Tom (Kathy), Harold (Claire), Mary Eileen; two daughters-in-law, Cathy Chisholm, Erdine Chisholm; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; foster brother, Louis Hewer (Marie Ayre); many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Joseph; five children, Joseph and Christine, in infancy; Jessie Eileen, Gerald, Roddie; two grandchildren, Gregory Boyd, Boyd Chisholm; son-in-law, John MacIsaac; two brothers, Judge Hugh J. and Harold E. MacPherson; two sisters, Kathleen MacDougall, Bernadette MacPherson; foster sister, Mary Lou (Hewer) Trump; two sisters-in-law, Jean C. MacPherson Q.C., Gertye MacPherson; brother-in-law, Lorne MacDougall.
