Mary Dolimont

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Julie Dolimont on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay. Born February 4, 1923, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late George and Jessie (Rowe) Powell and was a proud resident of Whitney Pier for most of her 96 years. Mary is survived by her only daughter, Joan (Gary) Grant; grandsons, Richard (Tanya), Timberlea and Sheldon Grant, Sydney; four precious great-grandchildren, Cooper, Lincoln, Tucker and Summer. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Clara, Sydney; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Mike, Ontario and sister-in-law, Mary, Ontario. Many nieces and nephews are also left to mourn her passing. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Richard; brothers, Ed and Jim and sister, Alice. For many years, Mary worked at Moraff’s Yarns and Crafts and was well-known for her knitting and crocheting skills. She also loved to cook and bake and was very happy to share with family and friends. Mary was an active member of the Whitney Pier Historical Society, the Whitney Pier Seniors Club, the Pier Divas Red Hat Society and the Salvation Army Home League. She always found time for her favorite pastime, Bingo. The family is very grateful to all the healthcare professionals who provided excellent care to Mom over the past year and a half, especially Palliative Care and the staff of Seaview Manor who treated her with dignity and made her final days as comfortable as possible. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday, June 9 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday, June 10 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Brenda Drake officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Loaves and Fishes or Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
