We, the family regret to announce the passing of Cassie MacLean, age 70, on Friday, June 8, 2018 at her home. Born in Sydney on April 5, 1948, Cassie was the daughter of Lucy (Currie) MacKenzie and the late Dan MacKenzie. She worked for a number of years in housekeeping at the Cove Guest Home in Sydney and also a housekeeper for other people in the community. Cassie was a member of St. Barra’s Parish, Christmas Island. Besides her mother, Lucy MacKenzie, Cassie is survived by her husband, John ‘Buddy’ MacLean; her brothers, John (Jessie) MacKenzie, Little Narrows, Danny MacKenzie, Pipers Cove, Joe (Betty) MacKenzie, Christmas Island, Gerard (Lynn) MacKenzie, Benacadie West; her sisters, Theresa (Angus) MacRae, Port Hawkesbury, Anne MacKenzie, Halifax; her brother-in-law, Albert MacKinnon, Big Beach; her sisters-in-law, Theresa Musgrave, Frenchvale, Katherine MacLean and Ann MacNeil, both of Shenacadie, and many nieces and nephews. Cassie was predeceased by her father, Dan MacKenzie; her sister, Catherine MacKinnon, and brother, Dougal MacKenzie. Visitation for Cassie will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday in the Christmas Island Fire Hall. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Columba Church, Iona with Rev. Everett MacDow officiating. Burial will follow in St. Barra’s Cemetery, Christmas Island. A reception will follow in the Christmas Island Fire Hall. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
