Marguerite Corkery — SYDNEY MINES

CORKERY, Marguerite We regret to announce the passing of Marguerite Corkery, age 93, on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at the Cove Guest Home. Born in Bras d’Or on October 16, 1925, she was the daughter of the late John James and Stella (Jessome) Swan. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Marguerite enjoyed baking, Bingo, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughters, Pauline (Connie) Cantwell, Sydney Mines, and Arlene (Michael) Yurchesyn, Atlanta, Ga. Also left to mourn are her grandchildren, Tammy, Melinda, Chris, Tracey, John Michael, and Robert; seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joe; son, Sylvester; sisters, Emily, Frances, Mary, Beatrice, Catherine, Elsie, Patricia, Liza, and Eddie, and her brothers, Clifton, Din, Steven, John and Manuel. A special thank you to the staff of the Cove Guest Home, and friends and family, Frances Russell, Melinda Cantwell, Elsie Corkery, Diane Gaudet, and Johnny and Carol Vickers. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marguerite’s memory may be made to the Northside Hospital Foundation. There will be no visitation. The funeral Mass will be held Monday, June 17, 2019, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery.
