With sadness I regret to announce the passing of my wife Margaret Anne Melanson on Monday, January 7, 2019, at home. She passed away peacefully with her husband and brother at her side. Margaret was born February 22, 1935, in Sydney to the late John Angus and Maude MacPherson. She started her working career with the stock brokers, but soon found her calling as a travel agent, a job she loved. Upon retiring, we built our dream cottage in Big Pond, where, for the next 20 years, we spent six months each year, until health problems caused us to stay closer to home. Besides her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Vera (Roy) Moffatt, Sydney and Jane (Marc) Couture, Montreal. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jim; sister, Barbara, New Glasgow; brother, Colin (Sandra), Dartmouth, as well as many nieces and nephews. We, the family, would like to thank the palliative care team of doctors and nurses, especially Linda Murphy who showed me the way, New Dawn caretaker who showed Margaret love and respect in her time of need. Also, to the VON who were there looking after her every need and to Dr. Greg Myatt and his nurse, Janice who, over the years, looked after Margaret. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. Interment will be held at a later date in Big Pond Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County, the Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Cancer Center or to a charity of your choice.
