Lillian Joan Coombes — Sydney

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Lillian Coombes on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in New Glasgow, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Dorothy (Heighton) Cyr. She was employed with Stats Canada for many years, until her retirement. Lillian was a member of the Library Book Club and was a volunteer with the Miner’s Museum which she enjoyed. She enjoyed knitting and was an avid reader. Lillian is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Charlie Coombes; her children, Linda (James), Conron, Alberta, Freda (Shawn) Brammer, Ontario, Scott (Tonia) Coombes, Alberta, and Shannon (Cherie) Coombes, Mackay Siding; grandchildren, Randy, Kassandra, Thomas, Emily, Jared, Rebecca, Zachary, Samantha, Nathan, Christopher, and Lilly; five great-grandchildren; sister and best friend, Diane; sister-in-law and close friend, Winnifred; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Linda; brothers, Donnie, Terry, Fred, Gerald, and Edward. Besides her parents, was predeceased by her son, Charles and brother, Albert. Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. with words of comfort spoken by family at 2:30 p.m. at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Kidney Foundation. The family would like to thank Dr. Stephanie Ellerker and the staff at the Renal Clinic as well as the many nurses and doctors at the Regional Hospital, for all your care and compassion given to Lillian during her illness.
