Lillian Elizabeth Leyte

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Lillian Elizabeth Leyte, on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Sydney Mines on December 17, 1929, she was the daughter of the late James and Alice (Burt) Peddle. Lillian was a talented baker. She especially enjoyed decorating cakes for all occasions and was proud of the many beautiful wedding cakes she made over the years. Lillian loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Family gatherings were important to her whether it was the traditional holiday meals, or Saturday spaghetti night at her home. All were welcome. Lillian is survived by her nine children, Barbara Leyte Waterloo, ON, Harry Leyte, Fred (Nadine) Leyte, both of Kitchener, ON, Alice (Robert) Hawley, Mill Creek, Jim (Wendy) Leyte and Jake (Valerie) Leyte, both of North Sydney, Debbie (Edward) Young, Berwick, NS, Christine (Jerry) Leyte, Alberta, Lawrence Leyte (Mike), Sydney; special grandchildren, Heather and James and many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Vivian) Peddle, Waterloo, ON; two sisters, Georgina (Bud) MacDonald, Geraldine (Roy) McAllister, both of Delhi, ON, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry; daughter, Margaret; daughter-in-law, Donna; special granddaughter, Elizabeth Leyte, and by her sister, Shirley (Frank) Schram. The family would like to thank the staff of Seaview Manor and the Glace Bay General Hospital for the care and compassion given to Lillian. There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, from the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home chapel with Marjorie Serafinus officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
