It is with sorrow we announce the passing of respected Sydney businessman, Leo R Collins on April 9, 2019 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney on July 29, 1936, Leo was the son of the late Charles and Agnes (Black) Collins. Leo started his career at CO-OP Building Supplies in 1953. He went on to open Collins Building Centre with his nephew, Jack. Leo took great pride in his family and he will be missed by all who knew him. Leo is survived by his wife, Louise (Kennedy) Collins; children, daughter-in-law, Theresa Collins, Marie (John) Savoy, Leo (Darlene Crouse), Robert (Glennis), Stephen (Nancy) and Rosalie (Mark) Worth; grandchildren, Lauren, Logan, Emily, Ashley, Jennifer, Chris, Ava and Jonah; several great-grandchildren; sister, Isobel as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Leo was predeceased by his daughter, Catherine Anne; son, Ron; sisters Helen, Josephine and brother, Harry. Visitation for the late Leo Ronald Collins will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019 at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), from 6-8 p.m. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the Mass, a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place in New Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier at a later date. Donations in memory of Leo may be made to charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
