We, the family of Kenneth Lawrence MacKinley, regret to announce his passing on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the QEII Health Science Centre, Halifax. Born October 9, 1941, in Sydney, he was the son of the late Peter and Catherine (Tutty) MacKinley. In 1960, Ken joined the Royal Canadian Navy, working as an engineer stationed in Victoria, BC and Halifax. He then moved to Alberta, where he worked for Syncrude Oil. Later, he worked as a salesman for Nissan Canada in Alberta, as well as various provinces across Canada, retiring to Cape Breton. When his son, Bruce was younger, he enjoyed coaching him in Minor Hockey. Ken was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Lions Club and the Royal Canadian Legion. Ken is survived by his daughter, Jennifer MacCleary; sons, Sean and Bruce MacCleary; granddaughters, Maeryn and Sierra; the mother of his children, Angela (Guest) MacCleary; sisters, Patricia MacKinley, Dale (Edward) Gorman and Millie (John) MacInnis; brothers, Barry (Norma), Brad (Chris) and Bernie (Beth). Besides his parents, Ken was predeceased by his sister, Deborah MacKinley. There will be no visitation or service. Interment will take place in Oakfield Cemetery, Marion Bridge at a later date.
