Kenneth 'Kenny' Darcy Harriet
HARRIET, Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Darcy Whitney Pier It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Kenneth Darcy Harriet, regret to announce his sudden passing due to a motor vehicle accident on Thursday, October 3, 2019. Born in Sydney, Kenny was the beloved son of Florence Harriet and Albert Harriet. As a young man Kenny enjoyed spending time at tartan downs race track with his brother Albert caring for the horses. A journeyman electrician by trade, he was a member of the IBEW for over 20 years until he could physically no longer continue with his career. It was then he could focus on his love for cooking and filling the bellies of his family and friends. Kenny was known for his strong personality, his witty sense of humour, and he did not hesitate to speak his mind. He was a very thoughtful and generous man who always put his family before himself. Hunting and fishing were among his favourite hobbies and during hockey season you could always find him rooting for his Toronto Maple Leafs while betting on the games with his good friend Tommy Curran. Kenny’s greatest passion of all was his loving family whom he adored. Kenny will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 28 years, Karen (Gillis); his two sons, Jonathan (Kelsey), Ryan (Kayla); grandchildren, Chloe, Lucas, Colby, Ryder and step-grandson, Ethan; mother, Florence Harriet (Jim); father, Albert (Judy) Harriet; brother, Albert (Kim); in-laws, Peter and Patsy Gillis; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda Hanna (Derrick); brother and sister-in-law, David Gillis (Shirley), as well as many nieces and nephews. Kenny was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Annie Mae and Joseph Sampson of Louisdale; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Faustina Harriet of Sydney River, and brother-in-law, Peter ‘Petey’ Gillis. Kenny’s family extend a special thank you to the first responders who attended to the scene of the accident which tragically ended his life. As per Kenny’s request cremation has taken place. Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Kenny Harriet will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), Whitney Pier on Wednesday, October 9, 2019. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10-11 a.m. with the memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Private family interment will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
