Katie Beaton — New Waterford

We regret to announce the death of Katie Beaton, age 97, on February 9, 2019 at New Waterford Heights with her loving family by her side. Born in Poland, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Obracay) Topolnicki. Katie was a very devoted member of St. Leonard’s Church and was involved with the CWL. She enjoyed a good game of scrabble with her family and friends and loved doing crossword puzzles. Katie is survived by her daughters, Anne Marie (Clifford - deceased) Beaton, B.C, Theresa Beaton, Glace Bay; son, Ronnie (Mary) Beaton, New Waterford; sister, Irene Obracay, New Waterford; nine grandchildren, Heather (Brad), Ronald (Julie), Jennifer (Kyle), Robert, Matthew, Christopher, Adam (Savannah), Jonathon, John; great-grandchild, Joseph Beaton. Besides her parents, Katie was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Joseph Beaton in 1995. There will be no visitation. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, River Ryan, with a reception to follow at St. Leonard’s Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Donations may be made to the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Cemetery Fund. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of New Waterford Heights, the 2nd floor staff and the Emergency Department at New Waterford Hospital, also the staff on 4 North at the Glace Bay Hospital for the compassion and care shown to Katie.
