It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen Lorraine Baker, age 73, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in North Sydney, September 15, 1944, Kay was the daughter of the late Isadore and Loretta (Galpin) Matthews. Kay was an avid card player, enjoyed going to bingo games, she loved picking berries but most of all spending time with her family. Kay is survived by her children, James “Jimmy” (Donna) Baker, Cheryl (John) Anthony, Shane (Kim) Baker, all of North Sydney, Scott (April) Baker, Sydney Mines, Patrick Baker, at home; her grandchildren, Kathleen, Alisha, Ashley, Brandon, Carter, Jessica, Hannah, Ava, Landon and Paige; a number of great-grandchildren; her sisters, Gloria (Jim) MacIntyre and Marie “WeWe” (Bill) McKee, both of North Sydney; special sister, Wanda MacLean, Ontario; by several nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her card partner, Jackie Ginter. Besides her parents Kay was predeceased by her husband, James Patrick “Jimmy” Baker in 2000; a daughter, Wanda in infancy; her sister, Linda Parks; brothers, Frank and Jim Matthews. Visitation for Kay will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
