Joseph ‘Ralston’ Brophy

Funeral service for the late Joseph ‘Ralston’ Brophy, 88, Mulgrave, was held December 3 in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Mulgrave, with Father Allan MacPhie officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mr. Brophy died November 28, 2018, in Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough. Born in Inverness, he was a son of the late William and Kaye (Johnston) Brophy. He enjoyed his tractor, fishing and gardening. He was a member of the International Longshoreman’s Association, Local 1976, Mulgrave, where he served as vice president. He was a former linesman at the Canso Canal and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by two daughters, Carol Anne (Robin) MacKinnon, Georgetown, Ontario; Sheila, Mulgrave; two sons, Billy Joe (Judy), Mulgrave; Doug (Meabh), Cole Harbour; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Woodman) Brophy; eight siblings, Margaret, Seward, Russell, Jerome, Johnson, Arthur, Winston, Kaye Elaine.
